Why Do I Walk So Much?
You’ve seen me post all about my walking and urban hiking around Denver. I’ve posted short hikes, long walks, medium ambles. By the way, take a look at those weekly Denver suggestions right here!
I walk usually at least 10000 steps a day, and I only know that because the S Health app on my Samsung phone tells me at the end of the day. I don’t consciously count (as I’ve mentioned many times.) But why do I walk all of those steps?
Yup, my waistline likes it.
Otherwise, I’d weigh 9 million pounds.
My mind likes it.
Otherwise, I’d be jumping off bridges and screaming at people.
My attitude likes it.
There’s nothing like watching a beautiful sunrise to set my attitude on the right path for the day.
But ultimately, the real reason?
I love to travel. I have a genetic predisposition to get on a plane at least once a month. Trust me, if I miss a month, I start to sweat with anxiety and my nerves fray. I medically have to get on a plane at least once a month.
It doesn’t matter where I go. I prefer to go overseas or south of the US. But I’ll take Vegas. A quick hop to Phoenix. I’ll even take Tulsa.
As long as I can get out, walk around the local town, down the local path, or through the local urban hike. I’m not picky. Short. Long. Urban. Rural. Suburban.
And here’s the funny thing.
The more I walk locally, the more I can walk internationally. Because we all know that sightseeing snags a good 8 miles a day, if not more. And when you ain’t walking at home, you ain’t walking on vacation either.
There’s nothing better on vacation, for me, than being free to walk around the city, getting out of taxis and Ubers and Lyfts, and getting INTO the community. That’s good living.
What about you? Why do you *really* walk?
~See you on the trail
